RMOW, Fairmont and Royal Bank also make 2010 list

Whistler Blackcomb (WB) this week was named one of the 50 greenest employers in Canada.
The
designation, announced by organization Canada’s Top 100, recognizes
innovative efforts to carry out business in an environmentally
responsible manner and to engage employees in efforts to be involved in
those efforts both in-house and in the community.
This is the second straight year WB was among the 50 employers to be named to the list.
“We
are thrilled to accept this award on behalf of our 3,800 employees,”
Dave Brownlie, WB president and chief operating officer, said in a
statement issued on Earth Day (Thursday, April 22).
“This
recognition could not be possible without the dedication, passion and
commitment our staff and guests have shown to reducing waste and
conserving energy. This is an award that we all can be proud of.”
The
2010 list of Canada’s greenest employers also included the Resort
Municipality of Whistler, Fairmont Hotels and Resorts and Royal Bank of
Canada.
WB officials touted their participation in renewable
energy projects such as the Fitzsimmons Creek run-of-river
hydroelectric station, which produces enough electricity to match the
total consumption of the ski area operation.
From 2008 to
2009, WB’s food and beverage division, which includes 18 restaurants,
reduced its waste by 75 per cent, officials said. WB employees
participate in a range of environmental programs, carpooling groups,
energy conservation programs and community efforts, such as the Habitat
Improvement Team (HIT), which regularly works
to improve habitat for riparian and terrestrial plants and animals in
and around Whistler, officials said.
